Seminar on mentoring and talent development in the visual arts

Talent Norge, Sparebank 1 Nord-Norge – Samfunnsløftet and Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter, in collaboration with the The Academy of Arts, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, invite to a seminar on mentoring and talent development in the visual arts – the transition from the academy to life as professional artist.

The seminar is free and open to everyone. The seminar language is English.

Presentation of Talent Norway and talent programmes in Northern Norway.

11:30—12:00 What a coach could do for an artist
Coaching is part of Talent Norway's ArtEx programme – a programme open to recently graduated artists from various art forms. Coach Kéa Ostovany and participant in Talent Norway's ArtEx programme Liv Barbosa Blad talk about their collaboration.

12:00—12:20 Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter's mentor programme
Talent NNKS is a mentor programme organised by the Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter (NNKS). During the last 3 years, 12 younger artists have participated in the programme. The art center's director Svein Ingvoll Pedersen talks about the programme and experiences acquired.

12:30—13:00 Mentoring – panel conversation with mentors and participants 
Mentoring is a core element in many of Talent Norge's programmes. Participants and mentors talk about what mentoring can be and share their experiences.

14.00—14.30 After the Art Academy 1
Artist Torill Johannessen talks about attending study programmes and residencies after graduating from the art academy – in her case among others The Mountain School of Arts in California and the residency program at WIELS in Brussels – and what it meant to her.

14.30—15.00 After the Art Academy 2
Students and recent graduates from the Tromsø Academy of Contemporary Art share their thoughts on the transition from the academy to life as professional artist.

15.00—15.30 After the Art Academy 3
Ruben Steinum shares his thoughts on what it takes to be an artist in the future. (Steinum is Chair of Norske Billedkunstnere (NBK) and former Chair of the Unge Kunstneres Samfund).
